☀️ Skin Cancer – Awareness, Prevention & Treatment
Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer globally, and it develops when skin cells grow abnormally—usually due to DNA damage caused by ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds.
? Types of Skin Cancer:
Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC)
Most common, slow-growing, rarely spreads
Appears as a pearly bump or flesh-colored growth
Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)
May spread if left untreated
Shows up as a scaly red patch or sore that won’t heal
Melanoma
Less common but most dangerous
Can appear as a new mole or change in an existing one
Key rule: ABCDE (Asymmetry, Border, Color, Diameter, Evolving)
? Prevention Tips:
Use broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen daily
Avoid tanning beds
Wear protective clothing, sunglasses & hats
Seek shade during peak sun hours (10 AM – 4 PM)
Do regular skin self-checks and annual dermatology visits
? Diagnosis & Treatment:
Biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosis
Treatments include:
Surgical removal
Cryotherapy (freezing)
Topical medications
Radiation therapy
Immunotherapy and targeted therapy for advanced melanoma
? When to See a Doctor:
If you notice:
A changing mole
A sore that won’t heal
Unusual growths on sun-exposed skin
Don’t wait—early detection saves lives.
