If you need a Same Day Company Formation Agent in the UK, the price you pay is usually made up of two separate elements: the official Companies House filing fee and the agent’s own service charge. Understanding that distinction matters because a headline price can look inexpensive until optional services and government fees are added.

As of 2026, Companies House charges £100 for standard digital company incorporation. A same day incorporation through Companies House software costs £156, and the same day service is subject to the relevant filing requirements and cut off time.

What Is the Typical Cost of a Same Day Formation Agent?

A formation agent normally charges for preparing and submitting the incorporation application on your behalf. The agent’s fee varies according to the package, the number of directors and shareholders, and additional services you choose.

A straightforward private limited company can therefore have a total formation cost consisting of:

  • The Companies House statutory incorporation fee

  • The formation agent’s administration or professional fee

  • Optional registered office services

  • Optional director service address

  • Optional business address services

  • Optional confirmation statement or company secretarial support

Some agents advertise very low introductory prices, but the final amount can be considerably higher once the Companies House fee and optional extras are included. A sensible comparison is therefore based on the total amount payable, rather than the advertised starting price.

How Much Does Companies House Charge for Same Day Incorporation?

The government fee changed significantly on 1 February 2026. The standard digital incorporation fee increased from £50 to £100. The current same day incorporation fee through software is £156.

Service

Current Companies House fee

Standard digital incorporation

£100

Same day incorporation through software

£156

Paper incorporation

£124

Digital confirmation statement

£50

Same day company name change

£85

These are Companies House fees, not formation agent fees.

This distinction is particularly important when comparing a Same Day Company Formation Agent. If an agent quotes, for example, £200, you should establish whether that figure already includes the £156 statutory same day filing fee.

Why Do Formation Agents Charge More Than Companies House?

A company can technically be incorporated without an agent. Companies House provides an online service costing £100 for standard incorporation, and the government states that applications are usually registered within 24 hours, although processing can take longer in some circumstances.

An agent adds value by taking responsibility for preparing and submitting the application.

Checking the Basic Company Details

An experienced agent should check matters such as the proposed company name, registered office, directors, shareholders and people with significant control.

This is not simply administrative box ticking. An error in a director’s details, share allocation or registered office information can create unnecessary complications after incorporation.

Dealing With Companies House Requirements

The incorporation application must contain appropriate information about the company and its officers. Companies House also requires information about people with significant control, commonly referred to as PSCs. A person holding more than 25% of the shares or voting rights may fall within the PSC rules.

A reputable agent should explain what information is required instead of simply asking you to complete an online form without guidance.

When Is Paying More for Same Day Service Sensible?

Same day incorporation can be worthwhile where timing has a genuine commercial purpose.

A client might have secured a contract that requires a company number before work begins. Another business owner may need the company established quickly to open a business bank account or complete a commercial agreement.

However, I would not normally recommend paying a premium simply because “same day” sounds better.

If there is no commercial deadline, standard incorporation is often perfectly adequate. Companies House says standard online applications are normally processed within 24 hours.

The sensible question is therefore not “Is same day formation available?” but “Do I actually need my company incorporated today?”

What Should Be Included in the Agent’s Price?

Before choosing an agent, ask for a clear breakdown of what you are buying. A professional formation service should make its pricing transparent.

At minimum, check whether the quoted price includes:

  • Companies House filing fees

  • Preparation of incorporation documents

  • Submission of the application

  • Certificate of incorporation

  • Memorandum and articles of association

  • PSC registration

  • Standard company searches

  • VAT, if applicable to the agent’s service

The certificate of incorporation confirms that the company legally exists and provides its company number and date of formation.

What Other Costs Should You Expect After Same Day Company Formation?

The biggest mistake I see with new company owners is treating incorporation as the entire cost of running a limited company. Formation is only the beginning. Once the company exists, it has ongoing legal, accounting and tax responsibilities.

Are Registered Office Services Included?

Not necessarily. Some formation packages include a registered office address for an introductory period, while others charge separately.

A registered office must meet legal requirements. It is the official address for receiving statutory correspondence, including communications from Companies House and HMRC.

A company owner using a home address may therefore decide that a professional registered office service provides greater privacy.

Director Service Addresses

A director can also use a service address for correspondence rather than having their residential address publicly displayed as their usual residential address.

This can be particularly attractive to directors working from home. However, a service address does not remove the need to provide the information legally required by Companies House.

Does Formation Automatically Deal With Corporation Tax?

Not always in the way a new business owner assumes.

The Companies House online incorporation service can register the company for Corporation Tax at the same time, unless the company is dormant. It can also be used to register for PAYE where the business will employ staff, including a director who is the only employee.

After incorporation, the directors remain responsible for ensuring that the company is properly registered and that HMRC obligations are met.

This is where an accountant can provide considerably more value than a basic formation package.

What About Payroll, P45s and P60s?

If the new company employs staff or pays a director through PAYE, payroll administration becomes relevant.

The business may need to operate PAYE, deduct income tax and employee National Insurance where applicable, report payroll information to HMRC and issue the appropriate employee documentation.

A company director taking a salary should not simply transfer money from the business bank account and assume it is a deductible salary expense. Payroll records and RTI reporting need to be handled correctly.

Employees may subsequently require documents such as a P45 when leaving employment and a P60 after the end of the tax year. These are payroll responsibilities rather than company formation services.

Can a Cheap Formation Agent Become Expensive Later?

Yes. This is why I recommend looking beyond the initial formation price.

A low-cost package might only submit the incorporation application. A more comprehensive service could include registered office facilities, confirmation statement reminders, company secretarial assistance and access to accounting support.

The right choice depends on how much administration you are prepared to handle yourself.

For example, a consultant with one shareholder, one director and straightforward activities may have little difficulty managing basic company administration. A company with several shareholders, employees and more complex ownership arrangements has greater scope for errors.

What Ongoing Companies House Costs Should Directors Remember?

Incorporation is not the only Companies House fee.

From 1 February 2026, the digital confirmation statement fee is £50. The confirmation statement is an important annual Companies House filing used to confirm that company information remains correct.

A useful cost comparison is:

Cost area

Amount or treatment

Standard digital incorporation

£100

Same day software incorporation

£156

Annual digital confirmation statement

£50

Registered office service

Depends on provider

Director service address

Depends on provider

Accounting and tax support

Depends on complexity

Payroll support

Depends on employees and payroll frequency

The £50 confirmation statement fee is separate from accounting fees and should be included in the company’s annual compliance budget.

How Should You Choose a Same Day Company Formation Agent?

Price should be only one part of the decision. Companies House maintains information about company formation and company secretarial agents that are authorised to incorporate companies electronically.

Look for an agent that clearly explains:

  • The exact government fee

  • The agent’s professional charge

  • Any VAT added to the service

  • Same day cut off times

  • What happens if Companies House rejects the application

  • Whether registered office services are included

  • Whether director service addresses cost extra

  • Whether post incorporation support is available

  • Whether accounting and Corporation Tax support can be provided

A genuine same day service should also make clear that “same day” does not mean every application will automatically be approved regardless of errors or complications. Companies House states that same day incorporation through software costs £156 and requires applications by 3pm Monday to Friday.

For a straightforward company with an urgent commercial deadline, paying a sensible premium to have an experienced Same Day Company Formation Agent handle the paperwork can be worthwhile. But if speed is not commercially important, standard incorporation may achieve the same legal result for considerably less.

The better long term decision is to consider the entire cost of compliance, including Corporation Tax, payroll, bookkeeping, annual accounts and Companies House filings, rather than choosing a formation provider solely because its headline formation price is the lowest.
